The world’s largest colour chart

The Grand Nuancier is a project that aims to paint and display an unlimited series of colour shades, all made on horizontal supports of the same proportion (width/height) √2, starting with the famous A4 format (21 x 29.7 cm). This series will be the subject of a work-in-progress, both personal (initiated by artist Kim R. Rebholz§) and collective (open to all©), continued indefinitely¥, exploring the colour spectrum in its entirety, with the ambition of gradually creating, “for mutual elevation”, the world’s largest painted colour chart, enabling physical and digital displays, bouquets & harmonies, with infinite combinations (playing to one’s heart’s content, whether with powerful contrasts or the subtleties of camaïeux). In addition to its research into art for art’s sake (for some aesthetic pleasure) and for a variety of scientific interests, the Grand Nuancier will be like a mirror, with abstract reflections, of the boundless riches of humanity, Earth, cosmos, and acting as a rainbow for peace, environmental protection, sustainable development, and the promotion of the universal and fraternal values of the United Nations.

The Grand Nuancier will narrate, in the luminous silence of painting, a certain natural history in the form of a fable, a fable of colours which, like all fables, has a moral…

§ Kim R. Rebholz began the adventure by donating some 7,000 shades to the eponymous association responsible for producing, housing and promoting the works of the Grand Nuancier.
© The Grand Nuancier will host workshops for young and older from all walks of life, with the particular aim of bringing together members of different parties in conflict to work together for the common good.
¥ Since the colour spectrum is – like nature itself – a bottomless well, the Grand Nuancier will always remain, de facto, an open work.
